The camera itself can work in vacuum, it has been used by NASA in space. A few issues have to be adressed:
- Internal temperature sensors should be monitored, this can be done by commands in a telnet window for instance.
- Some electronic components may be overheated because there is no convective cooling.
- Outgassing of glue and lubrication may occur.
Depending on estimated operating time in vacuum, modification of the camera must be considered. Instead of modifying the camera, environment enclosure can be used. FLIR does not provide environment enclosures, there are several suppliers on the market.
